Dr. Terri Messman-Moore is currently an Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of Clinical Training at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Dr. Messman-Moore’s Teaching Interests:
The courses she teaches are a reflection of her clinical interests and expertise. At the graduate level, she teach courses on systems of psychotherapy, trauma-focused psychotherapy for adults, and substance use disorders. Her theoretical approach to clinical intervention is cognitive-behavioral, which incorporates cognitive therapy, schema therapy, acceptance-based models (i.e., ACT, DBT), and some behavioral models (i.e., Behavior Activation Therapy). She teaches courses on CBT focusing on diagnosis, assessment and intervention, which involve integrating traditional CBT and acceptance-based and mindfulness approaches. In addition to these didactic courses, she also supervises practicum focusing on cognitive-behavioral approaches for adults. At the undergraduate level, she teaches primarily clinically-relevant courses, including abnormal psychology, adult psychopathology, and two senior capstone seminars, one focusing on trauma and gender and another focusing on emotion dysregulation and psychopathology. She enjoys mentoring students, and usually supervises at least one undergraduate honors thesis and numerous graduate theses/dissertations each year.

We have a fantastic conversation with Terri about core values, habits, ego depletion and self control. Some of the things we discussed with Terri are:
- Core values and how they are linked to goals
- Goal setting
- Decision making, ego depletion and self control
- Forming new habits
One of the best bits that I capture from Terri from this episode is…
“Core values fuel motivation”.
We’re so very thankful that Terri joined us for this discussion and we look forward to having her join us again.
